“So at the age of fifty-six I, Hoxworth Hale, have discovered that I, too, am one of those Golden Men who see both the West and the East, who cherish the glowing past and who apprehend the obscure future…”

The Modern Dunce Series

13 07 2009

This Friday July 17th at 7pm is the opening reception for an art show I have been working on for almost the past two years – The Modern Dunce Series

Collaborating with Yanique Norman has been – - difficult on the one hand because I’ve never worked so closely with someone creatively — and eye opening on the other. I’ve gone from being one of those anonymous faces on the street who have no knowledge of the art world and how it functions — to being thrown in the middle of a thriving cities art scene.

It’s all very strange – sometimes beautiful and thought provoking – somethings stupid and a waste of time. I’m still figuring out how I feel about it all, as in – whether or not I would like to continue something in this art world – but at least now I’ve had the experience of toiling with the “work” and figuring out how to get it on the wall.

At this point I will never judge too harshly another artists work because I know personally how difficult it was for that person to just get something on the wall.

Anyway – it’s been a long two years and the show is finally here. – The Modern Dunce Series at Sandler Hudson Gallery in Atlanta (www.SandlerHudson.com)

The Economics of “The Girlfriend Experience”

8 06 2009

TGE

Steven Soderbergh has created another piece of gold. This film is highly recommended for anyone who appreciates artistic cinema or economic discussion. As a person who is interested in both, I found The Girlfriend Experience to be thoroughly enjoyable and highly thought provoking.

*They even discuss the FED and buying gold! (who would have thought?!)

A Hero No Longer?

7 02 2009

michael-phelps-bong-4

Michael Phelps can win Gold medals in two Olympic games. He can be considered the greatest swimmer of all time. He can be a national hero. He can be on the cover of cereal boxes, magazine covers, and tv shows.

All of this is, of course, if he doesn’t smoke a little weed. Now that Phelps has made the horrendous mistake of choosing to smoke a little pot, he’s being dropped by Kelloggs and ostracized by most of the country.

Just goes to show how sick our mentality is in America. If we do not think it’s okay for the greatest swimmer of all time-a national icon-an American sports legend, to choose to put into his own body what he wishes, is there any hope for anyone?

The only thing wrong with Michael Phelps smoking pot is the fact that the American people are angered over him exercising a liberty that he has every moral right to make use of. Michael Phelps’ body belongs to no one but Michael Phelps, and what he chooses to put into it, is no one’s business but his own.

But I guess that’s something we still don’t understand.

Forgive Me For Not Swooning

As the rest of the country continues to make love to Barack Obama, they all seem to have forgotten the fact that 18 Afghanistanis have died since Obama has already ordered military strikes on that country. Thousands of jobs are being lost as Barack offers up the same tired solution to the problem the government caused in the first place. They all seem to look over the fact that it is runaway Statism that has gotten us into our peculiar situation in America, and that Obama, despite touting himself has an agent of change, is one of the staunches Statists in Washington D.C. Now he’s our president.

Don’t expect change. Expect more of the tired game politicians play. Expect the worst! Forgive me for not swooning.

I think Taki’s Magazine’s got the “Right” idea

11 04 2008

Thanks to LewRockwell.com…

As usual, Paul Gottfried’s analysis seems to be spot on. He writes at Taki’s Magazine:

This post-paleo right will follow the paleos in breaking from the “conservative movement” as it now exists or as it has been reconstituted since the 1980s. It will seek to return to the constitutional liberal traditions of the anti-New Deal coalition. Decentralization, restriction on immigration as a source of social disorder and as an excuse for the expansion of the government’s social engineering, and the total rejection of a global democratic foreign policy will likely be the pillars of the new political alignment. Most importantly, its advocates will have no “patriotic” illusions about our managerial regime. Unlike Bill Kristol and George Will, they will see the current American managerial state as a monstrous contrivance that must be dismantled. Judging by its direction, this youthful Right will be more libertarian than traditionalist. While no one would claim that this orientation has not influenced many paleoconservatives, among their successors it will become the focal point of their rebellious politics.

Atlas Shrugged Movie…..

13 02 2008

So yes, Ayn Rand’s novel Atlas Shrugged will be made into a movie. From what I hear, most of the debate has been about who will take the roll of the enigmatic, iconic Dagny Taggart . But a decision has been made…..and Miss Taggart will be……

Jolie-Pitt – - -

angelina-jolie_1.jpg

Yep, Ms. Angelina! My first reaction was…

Hey….why not!  The more I think about it thought it makes sense. Out of all the living actresses, she most fits the shoes. When I was first reading Atlas Shrugged I was picturing more of a dark haired Rene Zellweger, I still think it could be a toss up between either of them, but it could be a lot worse….

Angela certainly posses that inner quality, which is nothing physical, of courage and domination which is Dagny Taggart.

The only regret I think one could draw from this situation is that of not being in the right place at the right time. No matter how right an actress might be for that roll in our modern times no one, I mean NO ONE comes close to that one actress who would have been perfect. The embodiment of Dagny Taggart. The  actress who would have BEEN Dagny Taggart…..

the one….

the only…..

Georgia is NOT on my mind

6 02 2008

you SUCK Georgia….

georgia_map_flag.jpg

I wasn’t expecting Ron Paul to do much better though. It’s not a big surprise, but it’s still different when you actually live it. For those of you who don’t know Ron Paul only got 3% in the Georgia Primary. Mike Huckabee won.

What do you expect with a bunch of ignorant neo-conservatives?

Yesterday as I took an exit poll outside of the Martha J. Moore precinct a woman told me she had voted for Huckabee. Then she proceeded to get uncomfortably close to my face and raise her voice loudly. She said “Americans need to remember their roots! This county was founded on Christianity, not Islam, not Budism. That’s why we have the 4th of July!”

I just gawked at her in astonishment! Was she serious I thought? YES! I didn’t say anything and the lady walked away. She could tell that she was creeping me out because right as she got to her car she turned around guiltily and said, “I’ll let you go…..I could give you a sermon, but I know you’ve got work to do”. Then she left.

You see…..THAT’S what is wrong with America, and furthermore that’s why a lot of people hate Christians. That lady was so ignorant she actually believed that we have the 4th of July because of Christianity, NOT because that’s the day we declared independence from England (I guess it makes sense then, that she would support a dumb ass like Mike Huckabee ;) Of course most of our founders were Christians and therefor implemented their beliefs into the way they wrote, but NOTHING the founders did was purely based on Christianity. They were stringently opposed to merging Church and State.

That lady said “We need to get back to our roots” almost as if the only thing that means is everyone needs to be a Christian like her. How about…..

we get back to our roots by FOLLOWING THE CONSTITUTION! Having Habeus Corpus? NOT torturing people. Huh lady? How about that?

NO…I guess she doesn’t care about all those things, because they have nothing to do with Christianity. I’m so frayed right now. Sick and tired of all this BS! What is wrong with people?

Well……I don’t have much hope for that lady, but….

I DO have hope for the Ron Paul Revolution ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
