A Hero No Longer?

Michael Phelps can win Gold medals in two Olympic games. He can be considered the greatest swimmer of all time. He can be a national hero. He can be on the cover of cereal boxes, magazine covers, and tv shows.

All of this is, of course, if he doesn’t smoke a little weed. Now that Phelps has made the horrendous mistake of choosing to smoke a little pot, he’s being dropped by Kelloggs and ostracized by most of the country.

Just goes to show how sick our mentality is in America. If we do not think it’s okay for the greatest swimmer of all time-a national icon-an American sports legend, to choose to put into his own body what he wishes, is there any hope for anyone?

The only thing wrong with Michael Phelps smoking pot is the fact that the American people are angered over him exercising a liberty that he has every moral right to make use of. Michael Phelps’ body belongs to no one but Michael Phelps, and what he chooses to put into it, is no one’s business but his own.

But I guess that’s something we still don’t understand.
